Our second equity and inclusion training series is focused on better understanding and serving Hispanic and Latinx individuals and communities. If you can’t make the live event, the webinars will be recorded and made available on demand, where you can also view the first training series focused on serving LGBTQ+ populations.

This workshop addresses the ever-evolving multigenerational Latinx communities in the U.S., including the continued evolution of Latinx communities’ identities, why understanding intersectionality matters, and how sociopolitical contexts create narratives about Latinx communities that continue to reflect half-truths and misconceptions. Attendees will gain understanding about Latinx communities from strength-based perspectives as necessary foundations to providing culturally relevant and grounded services.

Latinx health disparities are well-documented, yet most systems providing services to Latinx communities continue to maintain the status quo. The expectation is that Latinx communities will change and fit into a model of healthcare delivery that is inequitable and, at times, culturally oppressive. From ACES to social determinants of health, oftentimes, Latinx communities are blamed for many of the environmental and discriminatory systems we exist within. This webinar will contextually situate, within an anti-racist framework, the relationships between immigration status, income, education, occupation, SES, and their role in maintaining healthcare disparities and what systems can do to better meet the needs of Latinx communities.

Hispanic/Latine sub-populations in the U.S. are very diverse and continue to grow. In this webinar, participants will learn about the cultural elements shared across many Hispanic/Latine individuals and how they can and should be incorporated into care. The webinar will also share proven strategies and techniques for working effectively with these communities.
