Disrupting the Status Quo: Changing the Narrative About Latinx Health Disparities
Presenters: Miguel Gallardo, Psy.D. and Haner Hernández, Ph.D.
Latinx health disparities are well-documented, yet most systems providing services to Latinx communities continue to maintain the status quo. The expectation is that Latinx communities will change and fit into a model of healthcare delivery that is inequitable and, at times, culturally oppressive. From ACES to social determinants of health, oftentimes, Latinx communities are blamed for many of the environmental and discriminatory systems we exist within. This webinar contextually situates, within an anti-racist framework, the relationships between immigration status, income, education, occupation, SES, and their role in maintaining healthcare disparities and what systems can do to better meet the needs of Latinx communities.
