The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced its FY 2024 Grants to Expand Substance Use Disorder Treatment Capacity in Adult and Family Treatment Drug Courts. The application deadline is Monday, April 1, 2024.

The purpose of this program is to expand substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery support services in existing adult treatment courts. Recipients are expected to provide prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery services for individuals with SUD involved with the courts. With this program, SAMHSA aims to improve abstinence from substance use, housing stability, employment status, social connectedness, health/behavioral/social consequences, and reduce criminal justice involvement.

Application Process

Applicants must complete the registration processes for three systems to apply for any SAMHSA Notice of Funding Opportunity:

It is important that applicants start the SAM registration process at least 6 weeks before the application deadline. About the Grant Program

Eligible adult treatment court models include adult drug courts, impaired driving (DWI/DUI) treatment courts, co-occurring courts, veterans treatment courts, reentry courts, tribal healing to wellness courts, family treatment courts, and municipal courts using the treatment court model.

Other eligible applicants include States and Territories, including the District of Columbia, political subdivisions of States, Indian tribes or tribal organizations, health facilities or programs operated by or in accordance with a contract or award with the Indian Health Service, or other public or private nonprofit entities.

• Award amount: Up to $400,000 per year
• Award period: Up to 5 years

Note: New this year, under required activities, grants must, “provide family engagement opportunities (e.g., parenting classes, fatherhood programming, family-centered or relational-based therapy, etc.).”
