Coping With Loss in Treatment Court

A new guide for staff and participants

The loss of a member of the treatment court community—such as a participant, team member, or other person involved in or related to the program—can trigger intense emotional responses. While grief and pain cannot be avoided, there are protocols to better aid participants and staff in being prepared, proactively equipped, and responsive to such events.

All Rise’s Center for Advancing Justice and Justice for Vets divisions have developed a new, free guide for court teams that provides foundational measures teams should consider adopting before, during, and after crises: “Coping With Loss in Treatment Court: A Guide for Supporting Staff and Participants.”

The guide covers:

  • How to prepare a crisis management plan, including developing a program crisis team
  • The Critical Incident Stress Management model
  • How to support both participants and team members through crises
  • How to lay the groundwork for healing
  • Resources for crisis prevention and response
